Introduction
Hello, everyone. I am Hazel Alstrom from St. Mary's, located in Western Alaska. I am married to William Alstrom II, and we have three boys and Irish twin granddaughters who are a year old. I support my children and grandchildren in their education, sports, and everything they do. I love spending time with my family. We love snow-maching and boating during the different seasons. Doing everything together is much more fun, especially with our grand-girls. I also love outdoor photography, and we spend much time outdoors, so I greatly enjoy this. I graduated with my Associate of Arts Degree in May of 2022 and am continuing my bachelor's degree in psychology. I am taking this class because it is one of my requirements for my degree. I've taken Ms. Lisa's Explorations in Music class, which I enjoyed, and when I saw that she was teaching an art class, I immediately chose her class. She is an excellent teacher, and I look forward to taking this class with you all!
I have no relationship to art, except if you consider photography a form of art. I don't paint, I don't sculpt, or I don't draw. I have one painting of my oldest son and myself. It was a painting done by one of the UAF RAHI instructors when he attended the RAHI program one summer. Other than that, I have pictures hanging on my wall. I have a few handmade wooden bowls and wooden spoons that could be the closest to any sculpting made by an elder. I have been to a museum, but it has been many years. I've never considered myself an artist, nor had any ambition to become an artist, but I look forward to learning more about art! I chose this the picture made by Vincent Van Gogh because this is the picture that I first learned about in school and I have never forgotten it or ever forgotten who painted it :)
Great Job
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind words. So glad you can have an enjoyable time while pursuing your degrees. Glad to be working with you again.
ReplyDeleteI like the formatting of your post and page! Also, not only do I have a friend who's grown up in Saint Mary's, but I'm actually a RAHI graduate! I love how many connections there are among people in Alaska. I also haven't been to a museum in many years, so maybe I'll have to stop at the Museum of the North on campus at some point!
ReplyDeleteHi Hazel,
ReplyDeleteI like the Van Gogh painting "The Starry Night" you chose for your blog. It was painted in 1889 in Saint-Paul asylum in Saint-Remy, where the painter was seeking healing from his mental illness. The beautiful, turbulent landscape is said to be the view from his window, and the 11 stars are associated with biblical references to Joseph. Vincent van Gogh stated that he painted the landscape just before sunrise, and the timeless beauty and presence of his painting permeated the time.
